We’ve all been there—you’re right in the middle of that very important call and then suddenly the connection drops. And who’s to blame? The poor mobile signal!

A weak signal is more than just frustrating. It can disrupt work, communication, and leisure. So if you are asking yourself how to boost phone signal, there are some easy ways to improve it. In this article, we will discuss the top 5 effective ways to improve your connection.

    1. Mobile Signal Booster

One of the best ways how to improve your signal strength is by using a mobile phone signal booster. It takes a weak signal, amplifies it, and then rebroadcasts that signal much stronger inside your home. It acts more or less like a middle point between your phone and the cell tower to make sure that your phone gets a much stronger connection.

A signal booster has three key components: an outside antenna, an amplifier, and an inside antenna. The outside antenna you should put in the location where the signal is the strongest, say on your roof or on a window. And then the inside antenna of course the boosted signal around your home, so you should find a good spot for it in one of your rooms.

Here are a few main types of boosters, if you are thinking of getting one:

    • Home boosters. Those are of course designed for home use. The are different types available, and if you are asking yourself how to boost your signal, you can also seek the help of pros like the UCtel team on this matter.
    • Vehicle boosters. Ideal for cars, providing better reception while on the move.
    • Commercial boosters. Perfect for large buildings or big structures. If you have a business or a company, this might be the best solution to improve the connection for your employees.

To get the best results, place the outside antenna in a spot where it will get the best possible signal. That usually means the higher, the better. You’ll then have to place the inside antenna in the part of your home where you need most of the coverage.

Most of the boosters are not that complicated to install and usually come with a manual of sorts, so vast experience in technology is not required to make good use of it.

    2. Use Your Wi-Fi Connection

If you have great Wi-Fi at home but a bad mobile signal, Wi-Fi calling will save you. You can use the Wi-Fi network for your mobile phone to make and receive calls.

Basically, Wi-Fi calling routes your calls and texts over your internet connection instead of using your mobile connection. As long as you have stable Wi-Fi, you’ll be able to make and receive calls without any issues. Even if your mobile signal is non-existent.

Most modern smartphones support Wi-Fi calling, and it is usually quite straightforward to turn on. Check your Settings under the Phone tab for the section called “Wi-Fi Calling” on an iPhone. As for an Android, it is typically under Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi Calling. Once you turn it on, it will automatically use Wi-Fi for calls when the mobile signal drops dead.

    3. Find the Best Spot in Your Home

Sometimes, improving your mobile signal is simply a matter of moving to a better location. The structure of your house and the physical environment have the potential to interfere with the signals, especially if you live in concentrated areas with high-rise buildings or just live in a house with thick walls. In this case, not all spots in your home might work for your phone.

Generally speaking, reception will be stronger near windows, on higher floors, and in open spaces. If you get a weak connection in one area of your home, try moving around and see if the signal improves. It might not be ideal of course or particularly reliable but it is a quick dirty fix.

You can use apps that will help you locate the best signal areas. Just find it on the online store and download it—there are plenty of free ones to use, as well as paid options. With such tools, you will see for yourself and for sure, where the signal in your home is better and what places are dead zones for connection.

    4. Change Network Band

You may not know this, but your smartphone phone changes network bands when you encounter a more substantial signal of another band. Most phones tend to use several different bands, which include 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G. If one band isn’t giving you a strong enough signal, sometimes changing to another band might make all the difference you need.

Each option has its strengths and weaknesses. For example, 2G and 3G have better coverage in rural areas, but slower data speeds. The 4G and 5G have high speed but they are not as reliable in all areas where the coverage is weak.

    5. Use a Femtocell

If you are looking for options on how to enhance your phone signal, a femtocell might be your answer. It is a little device that acts like a mini cell tower inside your home. It connects with your broadband internet and provides mobile signal coverage in areas where the network is weak.

Femtocells are extremely helpful, especially in houses with thick walls or in dead zones where even signal boosters barely work. If you are not sure if this solution is good for you, you can always ask for advice from professional teams like UCtel.

    Final Thoughts

There are plenty of ways to boost your mobile connection signal today. Nobody wants to experience glitches when you are on an important phone call, or just want to hop on a couch and watch a video using mobile internet. It’s a modern-day convenience that is taken as a given, but can quickly become a major hindrance if there are any disruptions. Luckily, with today’s article, you will have a few options on how to resolve these issues in your arsenal.
