The darkly comedic animated series “Carol & The End of the World” took viewers on a hilarious and poignant journey through the final days of humanity.

The brainchild of creators Dan Guterman, Martha Kelly, and Kimberly Hebert Gregory, the show’s success hinged not only on its unique premise but also on the stellar performances of its voice cast.

From seasoned veterans to rising stars, each character brought their own brand of humor and pathos to the impending apocalypse. The Cast of Carol & The End of the World

Who’s Who in the Coming Cataclysm?

    Martha Kelly as Carol

Leading the charge is Martha Kelly, who not only co-created the series but also lends her voice to the show’s central character, Carol. Carol is a middle-aged woman with a sardonic wit and a healthy dose of cynicism.

As the world prepares for its end, Carol remains resolutely unfazed, preferring her routines and creature comforts to the hedonistic chaos that erupts around her. Kelly’s nuanced performance perfectly captures Carol’s blend of dry humor, quiet desperation, and surprising vulnerability.

The Family Unit (More or Less)

Surrounding Carol are her equally quirky family members. Beth Grant brings Carol’s overbearing and judgmental mother, Pauline, to life.  Lawrence Pressman voices Bernard, Carol’s increasingly confused father. Their dynamic adds a layer of relatable family dysfunction to the end-of-the-world scenario.

    Friends Facing the End Together

Rounding out Carol’s inner circle are her co-workers, Donna Shaw (voiced by Kimberly Hébert Gregory) and Luis (voiced by Mel Rodriguez). Donna, the optimistic extrovert, provides a stark contrast to Carol’s introversion.  Luis, the resident conspiracy theorist, injects a dose of paranoia and dark humor into the group.

    A Sister with a Twist

Adding a dash of adventure to the mix is Carol’s free-spirited sister, Elena, voiced by the ever-hilarious Bridget Everett. Elena’s contrasting approach to the apocalypse – one filled with partying and impulsive decisions – creates tension and forces Carol to confront her own stagnant life.

Love and Loss in the Last Days

Romance finds its way into the picture with the introduction of Eric, voiced by Michael Chernus. Eric is a charming stranger Carol meets on a night out.  Their connection adds a layer of unexpected tenderness to the narrative.  Eric’s teenage son, Steven (voiced by Sean Giambrone), adds another layer of complexity to their dynamic.

    Supporting Cast: Carol’s Chaotic World

Surrounding Carol is a colorful cast of characters, each voiced by a talented performer. Here’s a look at some of the key players:

Lawrence Pressman and Beth Grant as Carol’s Parents, Bernard and Pauline:  The dysfunctional dynamic between Carol and her parents provides a source of humor throughout the series.  Lawrence Pressman lends his voice to Bernard, a self-absorbed and somewhat clueless father, while Beth Grant portrays Pauline, a passive-aggressive and overbearing mother.

Kimberly Hébert Gregory as Donna Shaw:  Donna is Carol’s quirky and optimistic co-worker who becomes an unlikely friend as the world ends.  Kimberly Hébert Gregory, who also co-created the show, brings a sense of enthusiasm and warmth to the character.

Mel Rodriguez as Luis:  Another co-worker of Carol’s, Luis is voiced by the charismatic Mel Rodriguez.  While not a central character, Luis provides some comedic relief with his flamboyant personality and penchant for partying.

Bridget Everett as Elena:  Carol’s free-spirited sister, Elena, is a stark contrast to Carol’s reserved nature.  Voiced by the ever-hilarious Bridget Everett, Elena injects a dose of adventure and recklessness into Carol’s final days.

Michael Chernus as Eric:  Eric is a stranger Carol meets during the apocalypse, and their brief encounter leads to an unexpected connection.  Michael Chernus delivers a charming performance as Eric, a character who brings a spark of romance into Carol’s world.

Sean Giambrone as Steven:  Eric’s teenage son, Steven, is voiced by Sean Giambrone, best known for his role as Adam F. Goldberg in “The Goldbergs.”  Steven adds another layer of complexity to Eric’s character and provides some humorous moments as he navigates the apocalypse alongside his father.
