With Christmas fast approaching, there is still time to finalise your plans. If you have been considering spending some time away from home this Christmas, then the Lake District makes a wonderful destination.

If you are not convinced, then read on as we look at just some of the reasons why you should celebrate Christmas in the Lakes this year.

    Picture perfect scenery

The Lake District is known for its scenery, stunning lakes, rolling hills, rocky outcrops and woodlands; it really does have it all. Plus, at Christmas, there is a very good chance that many of the hills and crags could be wearing a dusting of snow. If you long for Christmas scenery that looks like it belongs on a greeting card, then the Lakes is certain to deliver.

Of course, this scenery also makes the perfect backdrop for crisp winters walks, and a great way to walk off those indulgent festive meals. This also offers the perfect excuse to indulge in hot chocolate and cakes in one of the many tea shops or cafes you will find all over the Lake District.

    Wonderful accommodation options

There is nothing better on a cold winter’s day than sinking into a comfortable chair – hopefully in front of a roaring fire – and you will find no shortage of these. The Lake District has some incredible accommodation options that not only offer comfortable and cosy interiors, but also some stunning views. Indulge your senses and relax whilst celebrating Christmas without the stresses of dealing with everything yourself; there really is nothing better.

    Incredible food

Cumbria is known for a range of incredible food options. Many of the local eateries, from cafes to restaurants, pride themselves on their use of fresh local produce to create mouthwatering menus. In addition to all of the wonderful foods you will find all year round in the Lake District there are certain to be some spectacular favourites on offer as well. If you love great food, then you will be in for a real treat.

If that’s not enough to entice you, the Lake District is home to not one but five Michelin-star-rated restaurants; a testament to the award winning food you will find here.

Things to look out for on any menu include Cumberland sausage, sticky toffee pudding – the perfect indulgent sweet treat on a cold day, and Grasmere Gingerbread to name just a few of the local specialities.

    Boutique shops

If you still have a few festive gifts to buy, then one thing you won’t find in the Lake District is all of those big high street stores that all sell the same things. With plenty of smaller, more boutique-style shops you will find a wide range of more unique gift ideas that will be perfect for your loved ones. From incredible artwork to handmade chocolates, gift buying in the Lake District is sure to be a treat. And if you don’t have any presents left to buy then you still have the perfect place to go window shopping – or pick up a treat for yourself.

    Festive atmosphere

With narrow streets, quirky buildings and a small village community feel, the festive atmosphere in the Lakes is something to be savoured. The natural scenery combined with Christmas lights, trees and decorated windows will put you in the festive mood.

There are also a number of different festive events that take place in the Lakes over the Christmas period. From light switching on ceremonies to the Christmas markets, there is something for everyone.

    Conclusion

Don’t just take our word for it that the Lakes is an incredible place to spend Christmas. It really isn’t too late to look into making plans to spend some time there.
