Are you going on a trip soon? Maybe you’ve decided to take the plunge and go travelling for a few months? Whatever the reason for your getaway, long journeys can be tedious. But there are ways to take your mind of the number miles still to go.
Whether you’re on a plane, train, or heading off on a road trip, keeping yourself occupied with fun activities can make the journey enjoyable and the time fly by. Want some inspiration? Read on.
Listen to podcasts or audiobooks
There are many podcasts to choose from. You may already have your favourites. If you’re looking for some inspiration for something new, it’s worth checking out the latest podcast charts or looking at the suggested listening on your current lists.
If you want to get into something more involved than hour-long podcast episodes, audiobooks are a great choice. Is there a book you’ve been meaning to read for a while? This is the perfect time to download it and let someone else read it to you.
Whether you want to listen to podcasts, audiobooks or a mixture of the two, it’s worth planning ahead and downloading these to your device before you set off so that you don’t have to rely on the Wi-Fi connection.
Watch movies or TV shows
A long flight or train journey is the ideal opportunity to binge that TV show you’ve been meaning to watch. You can even use your journey time to decide the show for you. For instance, it’s not likely you’ll get through the whole of Game of Thrones, but you might get through both seasons of Fleabag.
Again, it’s worth downloading that film or show before you set off so that you have them loaded up and ready to go.
Read books or magazines
There’s something special about holding a physical copy of a magazine or a good book. Ahead of your trip, take the time to research the books you’d like to read next. You can get stocked up on some good reads before you set off.
Alternatively, you can make the most of browsing the magazines for sale in the train station or airport shops. You might even find some obscure titles that you’d like to read.
Play mobile games
Mobile games are a fun way to pass the time. From brain teasers like Sudoku or word puzzles to old school platform games and classics like snake, there’s so much to choose from. You can even try your hand at some online casino games while you’re travelling.
Try journaling or sketching
Journaling has several benefits. It can be good for your mood and help alleviate stress. If you have some downtime while you’re travelling, this can be the perfect opportunity to tap into this mindful activity.
If you prefer to draw, sketching is a great way to be creative and also to take your mind off the journey. You could draw the landscape outside your train window or even the back of the seat in front of you on the plane.
Plan future activities or trips
Use this time to decide where you’ll go when you get to your destination. You could research activities to try or sights to see. Maybe there’s a restaurant that you’d like to check out.
Alternatively, you can research your next trip. Where will you go next?
