French Open Women’s Championship: Can Anyone Beat Iga Swiatek?

The clay tennis season ends with the Roland-Garros, just starting now. Can top players take on Iga Swiatek, who has won twice at the 2024 French Open Women’s Championship?

Let’s look at who could win and their odds.

    Iga Swiatek

Iga Swiatek is the top choice for the 2024 French Open. She has a great 29-2 record there and wants her third straight win. She won her first match on Monday against Leolia Jeanjean with ease.

Swiatek shines on clay courts, with a 15-1 record this year, losing only once to Elena Rybakina in April. Her win rate on clay is now an impressive 89%, showing she’s really good on this type of ground.

Her recent wins at the Madrid and Rome events make her a tough opponent. Yet, her skills are not just on clay – with a 39-4 record this year, she also won the big Indian Wells.

Though she was out in the third round at the Australian Open, Swiatek’s year has been great, keeping her as the world No. 1. With her top game, it looks like Swiatek might win at Roland-Garros again.

    Aryna Sabalenka

Aryna Sabalenka is in great form going into the 2024 French Open. She reached the finals in both Madrid and Rome. But, her wins there were less bright due to losses to Swiatek. This puts Sabalenka back in their head-to-head record at 3-8 and just 1-5 on clay.

Even so, Sabalenka fought hard in Madrid, taking Swiatek to a three-set nail-biter that lasted three hours and 11 minutes. Swiatek just barely won 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (7), after saving three match points.

But Sabalenka beat Swiatek on clay in Madrid in 2023, showing she can face the best. Plus, she’s strong in big games, reaching the last four in her past six big matches and winning the Australian Open twice.

    Coco Gauff

Coco Gauff is a young star in tennis. At only 20, she has shot up to the top spots in the game. Last year was huge for Gauff. She grabbed her first big win at the Cincinnati Open and then her first major trophy at the US Open.

These victories lifted her into the top 3 global ranks for the first time in September 2023. This year, Gauff kept on shining, making it to the last four at the Australian Open, proving she’s good in big games.

She also loves playing at Roland Garros, having hit the last eight or better in the past three years and making it to the final in 2022.

    Elena Rybakina

Elena Rybakina is a big deal in women’s tennis, with a strong 4-2 lead against Iga Swiatek. She proved her skill by beating Swiatek on clay, making her a key player for the 2024 French Open. Her biggest win came at Wimbledon in 2022, showing she shines in the big moments.

Yet, her play in major games has been mixed, with only one more Grand Slam final at the 2023 Australian Open and reaching the quarterfinals just two times.

Still, Rybakina looks great going into Roland-Garros, with a 30-6 record for the season and wins in Stuttgart, Brisbane, and Abu Dhabi. If she keeps this up, a match against Swiatek in Paris could be very exciting.

    Danielle Collins

Danielle Collins is a real wild-card pick for the 2024 French Open. She’s been on fire, winning 21 of her last 23 games, though she lost both times to Aryna Sabalenka.

Yet, aside from making it to the quarterfinals in 2020, Collins hasn’t done too well in Paris. Also, her record against Swiatek and Sabalenka doesn’t look good.

    Ons Jabeur

Ons Jabeur, a leading player from Tunisia, faced a hard year. She reached the finals in three big matches yet didn’t win any, with a finals record of 0-3.

Her sad loss at Wimbledon last year seems to upset her still, making it hard for her to play well. This year, she has won 7 and lost 9 games, and she left the Rome games early, so things aren’t going great.

Last year, she did her best at Roland-Garros by reaching the last eight, but with her current game troubles, it seems hard for her to do that well again.

    Final Thoughts

Qinwen Zheng and Jelena Ostapenko have shined lately, grabbing attention for this year’s French Open. But our eyes are on the six women we mentioned before, all pushing hard to top their game.

The 2024 French Open looks to be an exciting match-up, full of possible twists and big moments. Picking just one winner is tough, but the fight for the top spot will be a hard one with these leading players. And if you want to bet on more than just the winner, keep an eye on the tennis parlay picks, as there are sure to be some exciting matchups and upsets throughout the tournament.
